Sardis

Location East of Izmir, West Turkey. Very old city. Home of The Phrygian king Midas and the Lydian king Croesus. Gold mining made the city extremely wealthy. According to the legend King Midas washed his hands in River Pactolus in Sardis because everything he touched turned to gold. Sardis invented coins.
